Duncan Creek Water Quality Monitoring Project
Sampling Parameters

Each year, two sampling events are conducted at each of the sampling sites.  One sample is collected in the spring and one in the fall.  Students do all of the sampling at the sites selected by their school.  Data has been collected since 1996.

During each sampling event, a number of parameters are determined or tested for.  They are:

Physical Parameters

Ball Habitat Rating    Steam flow    Temperature    pH    Turbidity

Biological Parameters

Macroinvertebrate sampling    Bacteria count of fecal coliform

Chemical Parameters

Dissolved oxygen    Biochemical oxygen demand    Total phosphate
Nitrates
Total solids

The methodology used for collection and analysis of samples is described in Field Manual for Water Quality, by Mitchell and Stapp.
